Automatic snapshots
Every save can become a snapshot. Browse your timeline and restore any earlier project folder state with one click.
Local backup & automatic versioning for DAWs, NLEs, complex Photoshop composites and more. Restore the exact state you need, with a single click on Restore.
The flight recorder for your projects
Your own fault, sure. You break a good state or overwrite the version that actually worked. On a paid job that's billable time you can't pass on. And if you do it for the love of it, it's your own lifetime nobody gives back. Creative-Rewind backs up your entire project folder every time you save. Instead of rebuilding for hours, you jump back to the last good state in seconds. Local on your machine, no cloud lock-in.
No commitment, no credit card. Start the 14-day trial with one click inside the app.
Sound familiar?
And if you do it right, you use Creative-Rewind.
After Splice Studio
Creative-Rewind puts project versioning back on your disk: automatic snapshots on every save, a timeline, notes, and full restore. For anyone who misses that safety net in the project folder most after Splice Studio. Fast, works offline, with no upload and no cloud subscription for your history.
Every save can become a snapshot. Browse your timeline and restore any earlier project folder state with one click.
Creative-Rewind is desktop software for your own project folder. Sample library and shared sessions were part of Splice Studio, not us. In return, every version stays local, fast, and under your control.
Snapshots and timeline live on your computer. Versioning works without internet; no account or cloud subscription for your history.
Auto-snapshot on every save, a timeline to find your way back, restore in seconds, storage at a glance: Creative-Rewind answers exactly these situations. Quiet in the background, while you stay productive.
Music, video, design, and 3D: any app with a project folder and a clear project file can be set up, with a software preset or via Other software (custom configuration).
Every save becomes a snapshot, automatically in the background, no extra click. Before a big experiment, you can trigger one manually anytime.
Several project files in the same folder, e.g. multiple Reaper or FL Studio files, or several Logic alternatives in one bundle? Each gets its own history, managed independently.
Bring an earlier snapshot back to your project folder, optionally with a safety snapshot first. Branch off for remixes and variations into a standalone project with a new folder.
Notes, color labels, and favorites. Even weeks later you can see which snapshot was which. Use all of that with Creative-Rewind's search.
You choose how much storage Creative-Rewind may use at most. Creative-Rewind never consumes more than that cap. When the limit is reached or less than about 10% remains free on the runtime storage volume, Creative-Rewind stops writing new snapshot data.
For each snapshot, Creative-Rewind shows how much runtime storage a full restore needs and how much that snapshot adds compared to the previous one.
Snapshots and timeline live on your computer, not with a cloud provider that may shut down tomorrow. Creative-Rewind is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Mix reference, brief, or voice memo attached directly to a snapshot and project. Attach useful files to snapshots and projects to document important information alongside them.
How does a snapshot sound? Attach audio material for a quick listen. What did the snapshot look like? Check Photoshop and Blender thumbnails right in the snapshot, or attach your own preview. Additional preview for files such as PDFs.
Export a single snapshot, back up a whole project including history, or import a shared backup, ideal for archives, collaborators, or switching machines. Optional scheduled full backup at fixed intervals.
Tracks, devices, clips, and automation compared to the previous snapshot. Experimental, but invaluable as a memory aid.
The Creative-Rewind principle
You work in a project folder on your disk. Inside it is the project file. It drives auto-snapshots and the timeline. Creative-Rewind backs up the entire project folder in the background: project file, takes, samples, sidecars, and everything that belongs there.
Whether DAW, video editor, design, or text editor: if your project lives as a project folder with a central project file, Creative-Rewind gives your work its flight recorder.*
*That's a good reason to try Creative-Rewind: See software presets
The folder you already work in. Creative-Rewind does not create a second workspace. It watches and backs up what lives there.
The file that auto-snapshots and the timeline orient on, whether .als, .logicx, .flp, or another project file. With project watch enabled, every save becomes a new snapshot. Cmd+S or Ctrl+S is all it takes!
Recordings, MIDI, samples, impulse responses, sidecars, and subfolders in the project folder are included by default. Everything in the folder.
Your software doesn't work with project folders and project files?
Software like DaVinci Resolve doesn't follow the project folder and project file principle. No problem: with a fixed export folder, you get the same timeline as everywhere else. Export, replace, rewind: the Creative-Rewind principle, bundled at milestones instead of every save.
In Creative-Rewind, you create a project and choose a folder that holds full project exports (e.g., .drp and associated media for DaVinci Resolve). That is your Creative-Rewind project.
When a cut counts as a milestone? Drop a full export there and replace the previous one. Creative-Rewind keeps each export as an auto-snapshot, visible in your timeline.
Restore puts the export folder back on disk. You import the restored export back, e.g., into DaVinci Resolve. Your exports and related snapshots benefit from Creative-Rewind's intelligent storage management too.
Intelligent storage management
Large project files, often hundreds of megabytes to gigabytes, are what eat your storage. Creative-Rewind backs them up completely and on repeated saves stores only what changed where possible – depending on the file format. Your history grows without your drive exploding on every save.
The project file and everything in the project folder, except paths you exclude, belong to every snapshot. Every snapshot is fully restorable.
Identical files live in storage only once, with the same content, no matter how many snapshots or Creative-Rewind projects need them. Creative-Rewind references them instead of copying again.
On repeated saves, Creative-Rewind does not store the entire file again each time. It remembers what changed, where that makes sense for the project file format.
How long does it take to secure a complete snapshot of a large project file during a workflow? The table below shows synthetic benchmarks with large binary files on our reference MacBook Pro (MX313D/A, M4 Max, 1 TB SSD, 48 GB RAM). In Creative-Rewind settings, the performance tier Maximum was selected. The results give a first impression of what intelligent storage management can do, especially for large project files.

*Additional storage used by the snapshot. “Project total” describes the new absolute storage usage of the project. How much space you save depends on your project file format.
**For truly large project files (many gigabytes), it can be worth triggering manual snapshots at meaningful points and turning off automatic snapshots. This always depends on your situation and on the hardware and computing power you use.
***Change size affects snapshot creation duration and additional storage on the SSD.
Conclusion: If you work with huge project files and want storage-efficient and restorable versioning, you should try Creative-Rewind. Any Photoshop or Blender users reading this?
Software presets
During setup, a software preset suggests typical project files and sensible excludes, for example render caches or backup folders. Accept the suggestions or pick your folder manually.
For Ableton Live (.als), Logic Pro (.logicx), GarageBand, FL Studio (.flp), Reaper (.rpp), Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Photoshop (.psd), Blender (.blend), Premiere Pro (.prproj), After Effects (.aep), InDesign (.indd), Illustrator (.ai), Cubase (.cpr), Pro Tools (.ptx), and more, project file, excludes, and typical folder layout are preconfigured. Nothing fits? Choose Other software (custom configuration) and set everything up yourself.
Presets describe typical folder layouts. Vendor updates can change structures; defaults can be adjusted anytime.
Marked: Ableton Live with experimental change overview in the timeline.
Software presets are convenient setup hints, optional extras, not a limit. DaVinci Resolve and similar apps use the export-folder workflow instead.
Logic Pro, GarageBand, Final Cut Pro, and iMovie can only be set up through their dedicated software preset, not via "Other software". For Final Cut Pro and iMovie, snapshots apply at the library level.
Ableton Live
See in the timeline what changed in your Live set, and which devices Creative-Rewind recognizes especially well. On an experimental basis, Ableton Live users get help documenting their snapshots. The notes field is available for manual documentation.
Experimental: This feature will always remain experimental because it depends heavily on third-party product decisions.
