Creative-Rewind backs up your project folder automatically in the background: project file, takes, and samples. Snapshots appear in the timeline; every snapshot is restorable, locally on your machine, with no cloud subscription.

Is Creative-Rewind the same as Rewind at rewind.com?

No. Creative-Rewind is desktop software from PCO Software for local backup and versioning of DAW and creative project folders. The official website is creative-rewind.com. Rewind at rewind.com is a different product: enterprise SaaS backup for business data. Same name, different company and use case.

What is rewind-creative.com, and how does it relate to Creative-Rewind?

rewind-creative.com is an alternate domain for Creative-Rewind by PCO Software; it redirects to the official website creative-rewind.com. It is not related to rewind.com (enterprise SaaS backup).

Does Creative-Rewind replace Splice Studio collaboration or samples?

No. Creative-Rewind is for local project folder versioning only, not real-time collaboration, shared sessions, or Splice's sample library.

What options exist for local versioning after Splice Studio?

Common workarounds are manual copies, Git, or cloud sync. Creative-Rewind targets automatic snapshots and restore on your own disk instead, without upload or a cloud subscription for version history.

What is a local alternative to Gobbler or Splice Studio for project versioning?

If you used Gobbler or Splice Studio mainly to version your project folder, Creative-Rewind covers that part locally: automatic snapshots on every save, a timeline, notes, and full restore on your disk. Collaboration, shared sessions, and Splice's sample library are not part of Creative-Rewind.

Can I do DAW version control offline?

Yes. Creative-Rewind stores every snapshot on your local disk; versioning, timeline, and restore work without internet. The license can be activated offline: the machine stays offline, and the license is confirmed via an activation file through the portal. After that, the license must be revalidated about every 30 days, online or via a renewed offline file through the portal.

Which software does Creative-Rewind support?

Creative-Rewind follows a principle, which makes it versatile: Creative-Rewind fits any app that works with a project folder and a clear project file, especially DAWs, video, design, or 3D. Typical DAW project files include Ableton Live (.als), Logic Pro (.logicx), and FL Studio (.flp). Software like DaVinci Resolve without a classic project folder? Use a fixed export folder as the unit: export, replace, restore, and re-import the export. Software presets for Ableton, Logic, Photoshop, and others speed up setup; everything else you configure with Other software (custom configuration). The known apps on the site are conveniences for everyday use, not a limit on the use cases for Creative-Rewind.

How does Creative-Rewind save disk space with many snapshots?

Creative-Rewind keeps every snapshot fully restorable, but stores identical files only once and references them. For large project files, it remembers what actually changed since the last save instead of copying the entire file again. In the app, each snapshot shows full restore size and growth compared to the previous snapshot. How much you save depends on the file format and how your software writes to disk.

Does Creative-Rewind create snapshots automatically?

Yes. Every save in your software can become a new snapshot, automatically in the background, with no extra click. You can turn automatic watch off per project. Before a big experiment, you can trigger one manually anytime. In the timeline, notes, color labels, and favorites help you find the right snapshot again, even weeks later.

How do I restore an earlier snapshot?

Bring an earlier snapshot back to your project folder, optionally with a safety snapshot first. When switching machines: migrate to an empty destination folder. For remixes and variations: branching creates a standalone Creative-Rewind project in a new project folder; the original stays unchanged.

What changes does Creative-Rewind show for Ableton Live?

In the timeline, you see what changed in your set compared to the previous snapshot: tracks, devices, clips, and automation. For profiled stock and VST3 devices, Creative-Rewind lists parameters before and after, with more or less detail depending on the device. Experimental as a memory aid: not every knob turn appears, some entries may be missing, and some labels differ from Live. This feature will always remain experimental because it depends heavily on third-party product decisions.

Does Creative-Rewind store data in the cloud?

No. Creative-Rewind works locally on your disk. Your history stays with you; you decide when to export or back up.

How is Creative-Rewind different from iCloud Drive or cloud backups?

iCloud Drive, Google Drive, and vendor cloud features sync or store files online. Creative-Rewind keeps version history locally on your disk: every save can become a snapshot, with timeline, notes, and full restore of your entire project folder. It is not a cloud sync replacement and does not depend on a vendor's servers. Creative-Rewind focuses on your project folder versions on your machine. You can optionally choose a different folder for runtime storage. In theory, that can also be folders in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive if you have them mounted in your file system. Creative-Rewind cannot guarantee how third-party management of runtime storage will affect its stability. We recommend keeping runtime storage locally in a normal folder.

Does Creative-Rewind require a subscription?

You can try Creative-Rewind free for 14 days in the desktop app: full features, no commitment, no credit card. For ongoing use after the trial, you need a one-time license purchase, not a subscription. The license covers one major version (e.g. 1.x): minor updates and bug fixes within that version are included permanently at no extra cost. A later major version (e.g. 2.0) with substantial new features is a separate, optional upgrade. If you skip it, your purchased major version stays usable permanently with no ongoing costs.

Which computers does Creative-Rewind run on?

Currently on Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 and later). Windows is planned. The desktop app is available in German and English.

You work in a project folder on your disk. Inside it is the project file. It drives auto-snapshots and the timeline. Creative-Rewind backs up the entire project folder in the background: project file, takes, samples, sidecars, and everything that belongs there.

Project folder

The folder you already work in. Creative-Rewind does not create a second workspace. It watches and backs up what lives there.

Project file

The file that auto-snapshots and the timeline orient on, whether .als, .logicx, .flp, or another project file. With project watch enabled, every save becomes a new snapshot. Cmd+S or Ctrl+S is all it takes!

Companion files

Recordings, MIDI, samples, impulse responses, sidecars, and subfolders in the project folder are included by default. Everything in the folder.

Your software doesn't work with project folders and project files?

DaVinci Resolve? Still a timeline.

Software like DaVinci Resolve doesn't follow the project folder and project file principle. No problem: with a fixed export folder, you get the same timeline as everywhere else. Export, replace, rewind: the Creative-Rewind principle, bundled at milestones instead of every save.

Set your export folder

In Creative-Rewind, you create a project and choose a folder that holds full project exports (e.g., .drp and associated media for DaVinci Resolve). That is your Creative-Rewind project.

Export milestone

When a cut counts as a milestone? Drop a full export there and replace the previous one. Creative-Rewind keeps each export as an auto-snapshot, visible in your timeline.

Go back and import

Restore puts the export folder back on disk. You import the restored export back, e.g., into DaVinci Resolve. Your exports and related snapshots benefit from Creative-Rewind's intelligent storage management too.

Definitely backed up

The project file and everything in the project folder, except paths you exclude, belong to every snapshot. Every snapshot is fully restorable.

Store once, use everywhere

Identical files live in storage only once, with the same content, no matter how many snapshots or Creative-Rewind projects need them. Creative-Rewind references them instead of copying again.

On repeated saves, Creative-Rewind does not store the entire file again each time. It remembers what changed, where that makes sense for the project file format.

How long does it take to secure a complete snapshot of a large project file during a workflow? The table below shows synthetic benchmarks with large binary files on our reference MacBook Pro (MX313D/A, M4 Max, 1 TB SSD, 48 GB RAM). Additional storage used by the snapshot. “Project total” describes the new absolute storage usage of the project. How much space you save depends on your project file format.

For truly large project files (many gigabytes), it can be worth triggering manual snapshots at meaningful points and turning off automatic snapshots. This always depends on your situation and on the hardware and computing power you use.

Change size affects snapshot creation duration and additional storage on the SSD.

During setup, a software preset suggests typical project files and sensible excludes, for example render caches or backup folders. Accept the suggestions or pick your folder manually.
